22 December was no ordinary school day. For a start, there were no lessons. The Students’ Association, Catholic leaders and the rest of the student body had been looking forward to celebrating Christmas with their peers and teachers. The day started off wonderfully with the singing of Christmas carols.
The Christmas Liturgy began with a short Bible quiz, reminding the girls of the importance of reading the Bible and it was then followed by an introduction of a traditional way of meditating the Bible known as Lectio Divina. The demonstration of practising Lectio Divina was presented in the form of a short play to educate the students on how one could receive Jesus, the Lord of Life, by regularly reading the scriptures and praying.
The second part of the drama depicted the three Wisemen competing with each other in the search of the Messiah. Unfortunately, the internet was not available to them in those days and so the method they chose was simple – Reading. The first one read 3000 books, the second one had finished 5000 and the third one 10,000! In doing so, they showed that reading allows one to be knowledgeable and wise enough to make the right decisions in life.
Before students headed off to their classrooms, the Students’ Association encouraged them to celebrate the festival by being environmentally-friendly. The occasion came to a close in a festive mood with impressive performances from the School Choir and the Chinese Orchestra.
To double the happiness, members of the Lungo Mano visited every class with greeting cards to ignite the Christmas ambience within the school campus and strengthen the sisterhood among Holy Familians. Such Canossian sisterhood was extended at a joint-school celebration with St. Francis Canossian College on 29 December. The students played games and performed a Christmas drama for 80 poor primary students from our Canossian schools. |
