SA Inter-house Drama Competition

What will you think of if you hear the word 'taste' Some may associate this with a supermarket and others may think of mouth-watering dishes. But to Holy Familians, this word meant neither of them. Instead, it referred to a different type of taste - one that is experienced in life and this was the theme of this year¡¦s SA Inter-house Drama Competition. Each House was asked to perform a drama on different aspects of life with regard to a particular taste.
The competition kicked off with a wonderful performance by students of House of Harmony. Their story was about a girl whose father spends his entire life earning for his daughter and providing her with the best. Unfortunately, the heavy workload takes its toll on his health and he eventually dies, leaving his daughter feeling bitter about life.
The second play, enacted by members of House of Peace was related to sourness. The story was based on the problems experienced by a low-income family. Relationships turn sour when the father turns to gambling and falls into debt. However, with the support of his family, he is able to kick the bad habit and mend his way into being a responsible father and husband.

House of Joy was lucky to add spice to their story - lucky, as the costumes and props reflected the color of the House. This story was about a girl named Spice Red, who mistreated her parents. But after an accident, she reformed herself and as expected, learnt to respect her parents and appreciate what she had in life.

How can one omit the sweetness in one's life and this was the message conveyed by House of Praise. To many, this taste is associated with the good things in life, such as having a good partner. Surprisingly, that was not the message conveyed in the play. In fact, it was emphasized that fulfilling one's ambition and adopting a positive attitude towards life is what actually makes life sweet. With a strong storyline as this one, it was no surprise that this House was awarded for the best script.

The performances not only gave students an opportunity to showcase their talent but also allowed them to develop their team spirit and pass on the message that life is mixture of different tastes and one's attitude towards life is essential in making it meaningful.
