It was time for the students to act as Godˇ¦s children and to show their compassion to those around them. In the first week after the studentsˇ¦ return from their Chinese New Year break, three activities were held with the aim of helping the needy and encouraging Holy Familians to follow Jesusˇ¦ footsteps by showing their awareness and concern for others.
To help the snowstorm victims in China, a fund-raising activity was held on 18th and 19th February and over twenty thousand dollars was collected. With the support of the Wofoo Foundation, the proceeds were doubled and then directed to the Hong Kong Red Cross to help rebuild the communities affected by the snowstorm. Students also expressed their concern through messages which were posted in the Wish Corner that was set up by the Moral and Civic Education Committee.
The Catholic Society spent a busy afternoon on 21st February by attending to around 800 students who had joined the Famine Lunch. That day, students dined on a small loaf of bread along with a packet of drink. Though some were not full, they were content as they knew that they were doing this all for a good cause. More than twenty thousand dollars was raised and the proceeds were donated to the Childrenˇ¦s Thalassaemia Foundation.
In preparation for the coming of Easter, a number of activities are held, namely the Lenten Box collection and prayer sessions in the school chapel. Every morning, a Lenten Box is passed around the classes to allow students to share a little of what they have with the less fortunate. This collection is a proactive response to the call of sharing and an act of charity.
Near the main entrance of the school, one can find students in the morning or at lunchtime, spending a few minutes to communicate with the Lord by jotting down a few words in a prayer book. This corner, known as the Praying Corner, was set up this year and is adorned with a Bible, a candle and a prayer book in which students and teachers ask the Lord for His blessings. |
