On the day following the Athletics Meet, teachers at HFCC got together not only to be updated but to exchange views with regard to the schoolˇ¦s preparation for the New Senior Secondary (NSS) curriculum.
In the first part of the workshop, Mr Vincent Li, the Principal of Queenˇ¦s College, shared with the teachers on how his school dealt with the planning of the new academic structure. Mr Li focused on three main issues, namely, subject combination, human resources allocation and preparation for studentsˇ¦ learning profile. The teachers found his comments insightful as it gave them a clearer direction for their discussions.
Following this was another sharing by Mr. Chin Y.M., head of Liberal Studies (LS) at Queenˇ¦s College, who talked about the approaches he adopted in the teaching of Liberal Studies and preparation for Independent Enquiry Study (IES). Mr. Chin emphasized the need for collaborative teaching which apparently is what teachers at HFCC are already working towards.
In the latter part of the workshop, the teachers got into groups and had a discussion on the strategic planning of the NSS in relation to HFCC and the teaching and learning of LS. In their discussions, the teachers drew on the experiences of other schools and adopted the KISS model in analyzing on what to keep, improve, start and stop. The discussions turned out to be very constructive as it provided a platform for teachers to voice their concerns and make suggestions, which are currently under consideration by the school. |
